Osteopathy

Osteopathy is rapidly gaining in popularity in Canada. It is well known across the UK and Europe, where it is common for clients to have a family osteopath with whom they book regular appointments for maintenance.

What exactly is Osteopathy?

This gentle manual therapy uses soft tissue release techniques, cranio-sacral release, visceral manipulation and articular mobilization to restore function and reduce pain in all of the body's tissues.

The body has a powerful intrinsic self-healing capacity and an osteopathic practitioner strives to optimize natural healing by improving circulation and mobility, supporting nervous system and organ functions, and improving postural balance and alignment.

Structure and function are interrelated, and the body functions as a whole. By restoring alignment, mobility and harmony, and by addressing the entire person as a whole instead of in isolated parts, osteopathy can be an efficient approach that helps resolve problems at the source.

Who is it for?

Osteopathy can address a very wide range of health issues. It is suitable for people of all ages, including infants and babies. Some of the many common reasons for consultation include:

  • Musculo-skeletal pain such as back, neck and joint pain

  • Chronic tension, stress

  • Anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, fatigue

  • Headaches, migraines

  • TMJ problems, sinus problems

  • Post-surgery or injury recovery

Important note

Osteopathy is not a regulated profession in Canada and clients are urged to check the credentials of the therapist to ensure that they meet international training standards.
